Latest downloads: Monuments and Melodies, a 2-disc greatest hits album by Incubus. WHOA I just had to finish downloading that last night! All their popular songs in it. ***** (Five stars even if I haven’t listened to the entire album yet!) Hold On Tight by Hey Monday– new band I think, I see their videos often on Channel V. Catchy teen pop tunes. Mitchel Musso’s self-titled album. Haven’t heard about this guy before (apparently he’s 17, and is a regular on Hannah Montana), but the album’s carrier single “Hey” is on the iTunes Top 100. This guy sounds a lot like Teddy Geiger or a perkier Ben Jelen, but I think even better with his poprock songs that are actually quite nice. The Jonas Brothers have a new album! Lines, Vines, and Trying Times. The first single “Paranoid” is actually good, the typical catchy Jonas Brothers sound. The single of When Love Takes Over by David Guetta featuring Kelly Rowland. My new favorite dance song, it’s the next “Where’s Your Head At”! I recommend the extended mix version of the song, though the main mix is good in itself. Boom boom pow, The Black Eyed Peas are back with The E.N.D.! Expect another round of funky rap tunes. I can’t get enough of “Boom Boom Pow”. (I thought Fergie was pregnant, why don’t I see a tummy bulge? Hehe)

Defected In The House: Ibiza ‘09, a compilation of house tunes Ibiza style– not as funky as Hed Kandi though, but if you want raw, relaxing house music, try listening to this one. Just Dance, another dance compilation, but this time of popular songs’ dance versions– such as “Mad” by Ne-Yo, “Disturbia” by Rihanna, “I Know You Want Me (Calle Ocho)” by Pitbull, etc. There are some true dance hits on the CD too, and I particularly love “Infinity (Klaas Remix)” by Guru Josh Project. Download that track, seriously it’s another club hit in the making! Hed Kandi World Series Brazil– of course how can I ever go wrong with any Hed Kandi CD? This time it’s Brazil style! They really just couldn’t get “Everybody” by Rudenko and “Day N’ Night” by Kid Cudi vs. Crookers on every new compilation they release though. Hed Kandi The Mix: Spring 2009. Party haaaaaard! The 2 songs I mentioned earlier are on the CD again! Fantasy Ride by Ciara– hmm, I like her earlier albums better, but “Love Sex Magic” featuring JT is HOT! Coming To Terms by Carolina Liar. I only downloaded the album to listen to “Show Me What I’m Looking For”, but the album is actually not bad. Just don’t listen to these guys perform live. I saw them on Ellen, and boy was the front man’s singing all over the place! Scars And Souvenirs by Theory Of A Deadman. I haven’t listened to the entire CD but their songs are on the iTunes Top 100 so the songs are probably okay… In The City by Kevin Rudolf– rock and rap mix with his rock dance songs, complimented by features with the likes of Lil Wayne and Rick Ross. Hmmm, catchy. Last but not the least: Amanda Leigh by Mandy Moore. Probably her most boring album ever. Can someone tell me if she’s changed musical direction???

Lately I’ve revived my interest for dance music, as I did about 2 years ago. And these are the songs I’m loving:

David Guetta feat. Kelly Rowland – When Love Takes Over

Rudenko – Everybody

Kid Cudi vs. Crookers – Day N’ Night

Twilight

Of course I wouldn’t let the hype die down without knowing what the fuss was all about– and now just having come home from watching the movie I’ve now got something to say about it ;) My only advice: watch the movie first before reading the book, since if you don’t then you’d be expecting that the movie will do the book some justice. Unfortunately it doesn’t (but that’s since I didn’t listen to my friends and I read the book first), but the movie is fairly okay in itself. It runs a bit dry and monotonous for the most part, but Edward Cullen and his romantic lines make up for it… maybe that’s what the fuss was all about?! Haha. No but really, there is just something about those romantic male characters that make you fall in love with them/ their character, just like Shane West as Landon Carter in A Walk To Remember, right? But anyway there really isn’t any climax to the story and it runs flat so you’d just be rooting for the love story then. I feel like I watched a longer episode of One Tree Hill/ The O.C., especially during the prom part…

As to the acting, it was dry as can be with a lot of talking, but like I said, Robert Pattinson as the hot, romantic, protective vampire Edward Cullen made up for it. Kristen Stewart as Bella Swan was okay, also the rest of the actors except for the one who played Rosalie Cullen. The character’s supposed to be the prettiest female on the planet but she didn’t do the character any justice at all. Oh, and the ending credits where they just had to introduce each actor really didn’t fit into the entire movie. It let out mixed signals– you wouldn’t know if it was romance, drama, suspense or thriller, with the mix of the music, humor, and treatment of the beginning and ending credits. It just wasn’t as dark as I expected, or maybe because I was expecting it to be Harry Potter-like. Nevertheless it’s a good movie (being the hopeless romantic that I am)– I loved hearing the lines and can only wish upon such love story for myself :P– worth 170 bucks. Hehe. I think I wanna watch it again for Edward Cullen’s character!

twilight_soundtrack2

I downloaded the soundtrack weeks before I saw the movie and I must say the songs are quite nice and fitting. I especially like “Flightless Bird, American Mouth” by Iron and Wine, which was played during the prom scene. I suddenly got to appreciate “Leave Out All The Rest” by Linkin Park as well. Anyway good movie, good soundtrack. And a hot Edward Cullen. Haha. I think I’ll watch it again :) In the meantime I’ll be starting on New Moon and reading the other books soon!

Same same weekend

September 14, 2008 Leave a comment

So this weekend was nothing different– I had my usual routine of swimming-mall-home-mall-mass-mall the entire 2 days. Hahaha. I had my last swimming lesson on Saturday, so now I can officially swim, yay! :) I won’t be scared of falling in the middle of the ocean na next time I get on a banana boat :P I find swimming interesting ah, I think in the future I might take advanced lessons, or even maybe get a diving license! I’m taking that from John Rae who got his diving license in Denmark, then his advanced open water diving license in Egypt. Oha! Doesn’t really matter to me where I get it but it’s something I will look into…

Anyway after the lesson I went to Gmall to check the status of my application for a Sun line. Apparently they still needed my payslip even if I already submitted my ITR and 2 competitor bills. Hellllooooo, I’m just applying for the 350 plan no! It’s not like I can’t pay for it, bayaran ko pa yung buong 2 years eh! It’s annoying that Sun Cellular takes particularly long to approve an application. Anyhoo after that I bought a pair of shoes (on sale!), and a bunch of junk food to eat at home.

And so I went home, then left again at 5pm to have my hair dye applied. The color isn’t too light but at least it lightened up my face a bit which is fine. I’m not really aiming to get those super visible, obvious hair colors that people will refer to you as “the girl with the colored hair…” Haha! Then I went to SM to find a pair of shorts since I only have one pair, and I’m particularly fond of wearing shorts nowadays since no one to dress up for anyway :P– so I was lucky to have spotted a perfect pair on sale again at Maldita! Heehee. The weekends are getting to be particularly boring especially when all I can do is leave the house then go shopping and blast my money! Good thing I had swimming lessons to take at least half the day the past weeks, but for the next weeks I have to find something else to do. The long awaited DJ lessons maybe?

Today naman I spent the entire morning and afternoon downloading the new songs based on iTunes. I always keep myself updated of the newest songs based on iTunes or Billboard, so you can find any Top 40 song on my playlist! Haha. I went to mass at 6pm then went to Gmall again to have my glasses repaired and to buy wet tissues. Now it’s 9:30pm and I’m home na. Time is so slow here in Davao!!!

Anyhoo I’m also starting to get the hang of downloading full albums nowadays. I downloaded the following albums today:

Shwayze by Shwayze. A rap-ish album from 22 year old rapper Shwayze. His music sounds a bit like Pharrell Williams, with light, floating beats. I really really love Buzzin’ (my fave song for the moment)! A great CD for hanging out at the beach!

We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things by Jason Mraz. Jason Mraz is back with a new album! I haven’t had the chance to listen to the previous ones after Waiting For My Rocket To Come, but I really really like this album than his first one! Jason Mraz’s cool, soothing voice is really nice to listen to, coupled with his light, upbeat songs. Great for listening in bed. Haha. I especially love his duet with Colbie Caillat, Lucky.

The Block by New Kids on the Block. Believe it or not I’m not familiar with any of the NKOTB songs from the 90’s… the first boy bands I was aware of were already Boyzone, Backstreet Boys and NSYNC, who were apparently followers of the NKOTB boyband phenomenon! Anyway I listened to this album, and in fairness the songs are cool– Jordan Knight and Joey McIntyre’s voices give that distinct smooth, sexy, R&B-ish sound to the album. Plus the artists they’ve worked with in this album are quite notable– Ne-Yo, The Pussycat Dolls, and Lady GaGa among many others!

Right now still on my downloading queue in LimeWire are the 2 Jonas Brothers albums (Jonas Brothers and A Little Bit Longer) and the soundtrack of Camp Rock. Yeah I did watch it and I found it cute naman! Though the acting was really bad the songs are catchy anyway, especially This Is Me– there’s even a local version of it na nga eh! But anyway I’ll post the mini-reviews soon!

==========

Time really passes by fast… I remember I was counting down since 34 days until September 20th. Now it’s down to 6 days, grabe! It’s just like Christmas where the thrill is in the waiting but once it actually comes then it doesn’t feel any different. I was at mass kanina and I was laughing and cringing by myself thinking of possible scenarios of what can take place this coming weekend. Then suddenly I felt the butterflies in my stomach. I’m both excited and scared, especially during the first meeting at the airport!

… Then there’s an Ateneo-La Salle game pala on Sunday. I hope Ateneo wins and that way I’ll have 2 free dinners, one from the previous game and the other one for Sunday’s game!

50 days… and I’m still hanging

Lifehouse- Hanging By A Moment

Desperate for changing, starving for truth
I’m closer to where I started chasing after you
I’m falling even more in love with you, letting go of all I’ve held onto
I’m standing here until you make me move, I’m hanging by a moment here with you

Forgetting all I’m lacking, completely incomplete
I’ll take your invitation, you take all of me now…

I’m falling even more in love with you, letting go of all I’ve held onto
I’m standing here until you make me move, I’m hanging by a moment here with you
I’m living for the only thing I know, I’m running and not quite sure where to go
And I don’t know what I’m diving into, just hanging by a moment here with you

There’s nothing else to lose, there’s nothing else to find
There’s nothing in the world that can change my mind
There is nothing else, there is nothing else, there is nothing else

I’m losing myself just to find a place in your mind

Lifehouse – Make Me Over

Wrap my arms around your name, feel your breath against my pain
As I breathe out the past is gone

Empty smile, naked heart, who I was falls apart when you’re here inside of me
Feel till you’re numb, depth perception becoming the new deaf & dumb

I’m losing myself just to find a place in your mind, in your mind
Changing myself just to stand alone in your eyes
In your eyes… pull me in, take me out, make me over

Read the wave, ride your fears in this ocean of years
We’ve been here, swimming on
Take me deep till I find every corner of your mind
We’ve been here, swimming on

Touch till you taste all the time we are wasting alone, waiting here

I’m losing myself just to find a place in your mind, in your mind
Changing myself just to stand alone in your eyes, your eyes…
Pull me in, take me out, make me over and shout me out loud, shout me out loud

Ace Young has an album!!!

August 5, 2008 Leave a comment

Yayyyy! As soon as I saw it on iTunes I downloaded it on Mininova, and popped it into my iPod. It’s great stuff! In his first full-length, self-titled album, Ace Young’s got a poppish, semi-pop rock sound that isn’t exactly bubble gum– in fact he sounds like an ex-boy band member! Heehee, and that is just hot! (Oh, need I mention that he actually is one of the hotter American Idol hopefuls?)

His voice sounds a lot like Teddy Geiger. (Remember that guy, the young one-hit wonder who sang “For You I Will”?) His music is more like Blake Lewis’, less the electro-pop sounds and the beat boxing, plus some falsettos here and there– but easier to sing to, more melodious, and hotter-sounding! You could also say it’s a cross between George Michael’s and Adam Levine’s voices with the funky, upbeat songs. I would have wanted to hear his famous renditions of “Father Figure” (George Michael) and “Butterflies” (Michael Jackson) on the album though. But the songs definitely make up for it… ah basta! You guys check it out! :)

The video to his single, “Addicted”. HOT. HOT. HOT!!!

My latest album downloads

August 3, 2008 Leave a comment

I have quite a lot of time (though not computer memory) on my hands lately, so I’ve been downloading quite a lot. Here are the recent full-length albums I’ve just downloaded over the past month or so. I’ll throw in some words of review here and there as well! All I can say is, my iPod’s definitely getting its fill of good music lately. :)

Hed Kandi Beach House 2008

The latest Hed Kandi Beach House release this July 2008. Finally, the real beach house feel (which I believe was lost for the past 2 albums) is back! I’ve been collecting a lot of the Beach House albums since they started, and I have to say this is one of the best ones ever. The entire CD has a relaxing Latino-beach house theme to it, without compromising the class of the Hed Kandi music style. The first disc has a more relaxed feel, while the second disc gives the feel of downtempo house perfect for chilling out– but not too much. Great stuff!

Waves and the Both of Us – Charlotte Sometimes

I “discovered” Charlotte Sometimes’ album carrier single “Waves and the Both of Us” when it was featured on the iTunes New Music section. I soon grew to like the song for its aggressive lyrics, and later tried to download the album. As she really is, Charlotte Sometimes’ music has a young, aggressive, alternative sound– but careful, the lyrics aren’t exactly for the young set!

Where The Light Is (Live in Los Angeles) – John Mayer

I only downloaded this because John Mayer’s a classic guitar hero with his melodious guitar riffs and husky voice. I think I like his studio albums better though. This concert sounded more of a guitar-playing showcase for me, and I think I like John Mayer with his emotive, downtempo, bed-weather, rainy day voice more than the guitar playing.

One of the Boys – Katy Perry

I was actually a bit surprised about this one. Roll the likes of Pink and Natasha Bedingfield into one– and you’ve got Katy Perry, only prettier (as the boys say, “hotter”). I really like her album! The songs are fun to sing to and the melodies are easy to recall. The album’s got a mix of aggressive-sounding songs but there are also some slow girly songs in there. It’s mostly Katy Perry’s voice that gives a wonderful distinction. (I highly recommend this one for download)

Flavors of Entanglement – Alanis Morissette

I used to looooove Alanis Morissette’s music back in 1995, but seriously she’s more lackluster now. The album is more of the normal, toned down Alanis– which is not really what she was famous for. Too bad.

Frank – Amy Winehouse

An album of Amy Winehouse’s earlier song releases before the “Back To Black” album. Despite the way she looks, Miss Winehouse is for me, the princess if soul. Damn, she sings well. And I personally don’t get tired of her songs, despite how powerful and arrogant they sound.

19 – Adele

I love “Chasing Pavements” and “Make You Feel My Love” on the album. Adele isn’t the typical pretty singer but her songs are actually nice– more on the slow alternative side. She won’t be your typical pop star sound though.

Mamma Mia! The Movie Soundtrack

… To complete my collection of Abba and Mamma Mia albums. They say Meryl Streep does a great job at singing this one, but I still like the original broadway version better.

Riot! – Paramore

You’d think Paramore’s another teenage band that plays angsty high school music, but their songs are actually sensible, wholesome, and melodious. I especially love “That’s What You Get” and “CrushCrushCrush”. And the lead singer really can sing. Oh, I’d love to go to their concert!

… Until then I’ll be playing the waiting game

July 27, 2008 Leave a comment

Swing Out Sister – Waiting Game

I’ve spent too much time waiting for you in vain
I can’t hear your voice although I call your name
I can’t go on but I still hang on just the same
I’ve spent endless nights crying your name out loud but still remain alone in an empty crowd
As time goes on I realize you’ll never change
I say a prayer, I count the hours, I hear a voice but it’s not yours
I count the score, I can’t go on playing the waiting game

If you should ever change your mind, I’ll be there just call my name
Until then I’ll be playing the waiting game

I’ve waited too long wishing my life away convincing myself tomorrow you’d change your ways
I can’t go on but I still hang on just the same
I say a prayer, I count the hours, I hear a voice but it’s not yours
I count the score, I can’t go on playing the waiting game

All you left me with emptiness, now everyday seems the same
You’ve gone but I’m still playing the waiting game

If you should ever change your mind, I’ll be there just call my name
Until then I’ll be playing the waiting game

I’ve waited too long for you to change your ways
Playing the waiting game
All you left me with emptiness, now everyday seems the same
You’ve gone but I’m still playing the waiting game

If you should ever change your mind, I’ll be there just call my name
Until then I’ll be playing the waiting game
